What does it cost?


There is no charge to join Prime Umbrella, but we do make a small service charge of £20/week or £80/month when processing a timesheet. The ongoing cost to yourself would be the tax on your PAYE salary plus our service charge.

What is my employment status?


You will be our employee with a salary through PAYE

What about IR35?


Because you are employed, IR35 does not apply

Can I still work through my Limited Company/PSC?


No. From April 1st 2017 this has been impossible in the Public Sector and from April 1st 2020 this will also be the case in the Private Sector.

If I am employed by you, can I still do occasional freelance work?


Yes! Call us to see how we can make this work to your advantage!

Do I need my own insurance?


This depends on your specialism. Prime has Employer’s Liability, Public Liability and Public Indemnity insurance for all of its staff. However, some professions require the individual to have their own insurance. If in doubt, please ask us!

Will I need an accountant?


Not with respect of Prime.  As you are employed all administration is handled by Prime. However, you may need to retain your accountant to deal with any other tax matters not relating to Prime.

What happens if I want to leave Prime Umbrella?


You would give notice of usually a week, or a month dependant on contract, resign in the normal way and get a P45 from us.

Can I still work through a Recruitment Agency?


Yes! Prime is geared to working with both agencies and end-users where there is not agency involved. Not all umbrella solutions offer this flexibility. The key difference is that Prime is fully compliant with all April 2017 and April 2020 changes and an industry accredited solution – many are not. Win-Win!

How do I get paid?


You will be paid by bank transfer on a Friday for weekly agreements and on the last working day of the month for monthly ones.
